Mastermind Tank Questions

Postby Mastermind » Fri Apr 22, 2016 7:08 am

Hi everyone,

I am organizing an internal game of Mastermind for Television New Zealand and one of the contestants has chosen WWII tanks as their specialist subject. I now need to come up with 20 questions that test his knowledge!

If you wouldn’t mind private messaging me a few questions to get me started that would be hugely appreciated. I’ve asked for private messages in case he’s on this forum!

Thanks in advance.

Mark

Hi.

There is a large bandwidth of possible questions between very easy and unfair. We can give you questions in each category. In the end it depends on his real knowledge what´s fair.

There were also many tank developing contries but I don´think all are suitable (better: interesting enough) for a NZ TV-show. So for me a little more specifications regarding the questions would be nice.

Yours

tom! ;)

Hi Tom!

I'm after questions that are on the difficult side of the spectrum - I'd like to give him a run for his money :)

Technical questions including pros/cons and quirky features would be great, as well as any WWII stories featuring tanks that are out of the ordinary.

Any help would be amazing!

Thanks,
Mark

I'd be very wary of pro's/cons, quirky features and stories as they are not factual based

even a lot of common and not so common "facts" around ww2 are actually propositions based on after the event historical review and can vary due to accuracy of the data, organisation of the data and personal bias

You see, it turns out that despite ww2 being in living history and a modern war it seems that the people at the front were busy doing other stuff and turned out to be fairly piss poor at documenting a lot of the gritty detail people nowadays want.

even something as simple, narrow and well documented as German tank levels and designs has a lot of errors and irregularities. Units under reported numbers, enemies over reported enemies engaged/destroyed and units under reported vehicles that broke down. Unit's also did a huge amount of field modifications, some legitimate, some useful, some just bizzare which to a modern mind/tanker would be unimaginable. From legitimate authorised or unauthorised armour upgrades to just simply welding to the outside of their tank a box and table they found in a field because they are handy things to have (you didn't see anything welded on to the outside of an abrams or challenger by their crew in any of gulf pics)

I suppose that is what makes a lot of the historical review of ww2 interesting because there is enough data to do stuff with but there are a lot of gaps so it's not all done.

also can you not ask him to narrow his field down such as particular nation, side or front as tanks of ww2 is a massive subject from the common tiger stuff to the very obscure little understood in western circles Japanese stuff
