That's the MAS-36
It was the French army's standard issue rifle from 1936-1950, but saw front line service well into the 60's
7.5x54mm, bolt action rifle that uses 2 rear locking lugs, much like the lee-enfield

Have you fired the MAS 36?

I want to get a pre 1940 one for my collection but they are hard to find here.

On the sporterized Enfield, Long Branch rifles had Long Branch on the left side of the reciever and all of the small parts will have a L over B stamped on them. Other Canadian parts (mainly the wood) had a C with arrow through it to denote Canadian ownership.

I can't recall exactly but there is something in the serial numbers on the wrist socket that was particular to each maker. C was used by Savage but I can't remember what my Long Branch had. I don't know what BSA or Fazakerly had either.

I have fired the MAS-36, Brilliant rifle.
The left side of the receiver has been scrubbed clean for a scope mounting. It has no letter prefix on the SN so it's probably a FAZ

Absolutely stunning collection Dave. The Lee Enfield No.4 Mk.2 is a work of art. If you ever want to get rid of it (and I'm sure you never will) let me know!

Also, is the Bren deactivated or functional? If so, is it select fire? I am completely unfamiliar with UK law when it comes to owning select fire firearms. Easy to do in the states with a clean background and a few hundred bucks.

Something else I would like to ask you Dave, since it may save me some time browsing the internet. :D

I remember reading (don't know where) that Mosin-Nagant rifles are model 1891 rifles specially selected for their accuracy. Kind of like, every Mosin-Nagant is a model 1891, but not every 1891 is a Mosin-Nagant. Maybe you can shed some light on this for me. There's a good chance I'm just very confused though.

The Bren is de-activated sadly :(

No.4 Mk.2's like mine do turn up in the states more often than the UK most of the unfired ones like mine made their way to the states before being used, mine luckily made its way back to the UK.

Mosin Nagants well where to start. The 1891 was the original model and was updated in 1930 to Soviet standards, so shortened abit and sights were made to metric. this became the 91/30. These were then selected for accuracy and those that were above standard became 91/30 rifles fitted with Scopes, much like how Enfield No.4 (T)s were chosen.

Mosin Nagant is just a combination of the designers names

Hope this helps
