to all my freinds at tank forum ,it seems that a recent rash of earthquakes in the caldera area of yellowstone have been speeding up in magnitude and intensity .apparently the USGS may be under orders to underplay and minimize the gravity of such events .since no person has ever actually witnessed the events precedeing a super volcano eruption ,we cant be certain as to the threat level these recent quakes merit .though i am not a scientist ,my own investigation has caused me some disquiet .the recent shifts in entire lakebeds which lift one shoreline and flood the oppisite ,the mysterious death of a small herd of bison and the rapid increase in the volume and magnitude in localized earthquakes are not pleasant to contemplate .if you were wholey ignorant of the grim reality of this geologic timebomb ,well then... so was i ,a few weeks ago .they say "ignorance is bliss " and now you will know why this is so .

what is known is that the yellowstone caldera is long past due for an eruption and that the last event killed almost every creature for about a thousand miles downwind .this event will certainly shut down the great breadbasket of america indefinately (with a five foot layer of pumice in the dakotas ) and the USA will be reduced to a state of perminent disrepair that will make the recent haiti debacle seem like a short summer rainstorm in comparisin .the USA will be closed for business indefinately ,kaput ,finished ,expired .a political non entity .

the sulfer dioxide clouds that fill the atmosphere will pretty much shut down photosynthesis for years if not decades worldwide .bear in mind ,the yellowstone event will be the equal in emissions to ONE THOUSAND st helens eruptions ,all happening at once ....to be certain ,many experts claim that the event may not occur for hundreds or thousands of years from now .all agree however ,that this event will occur ,that it is overdue and that an increase in seismic activity in the caldera will give advance notice .that this "notice "seems sorta busy lately ,is why i am writing this post .

the reason i feel obliged to pass along this unpleasant message is that some precautions can be taken by all of us to improve our own familys survival .think of it as the "mormon doctrine " ..ie. all mormons are required to store enough food to feed their familys for one year .this is a very sensible and even inexpensive operation .store basic foodstuffs ,rice ,beans ,flour ,sugar ,pasta ,ect ...in plastic bugproof containers , in cool dark spaces .buy generic goods ,in bulk and make them safe from mice ,dampness and weevils .secure them and keep mum about it .

this is a wise policy regardless of when exactly , america goes under via a zillion tons of wyoming silica .there were a half dozen magnitude three earthquakes in the last two weeks at yellowstone .visit "yellowstone alert " and also watch the supervolcano clips on youtube .im sorry to be the bearer of such depressing news and i dearly hope that you can all laugh and point at me over the next years and decades as being "a silly overreacting alarmist "...if you get nothing else from this post ,at least educate yourself about the legacy of yellowstone and do make a habit of stockpileing enough basic comodities to feed your imediate familys ....yellowstone aside ,ther are a dozen other scenarios that could make supermarket shelves go barren for weeks or months on end .you can feed a family of four for many months for what a cheap car stereo costs ....start buying a bag of staples on every viset to the supermarket ,save your coffee cans and liquid soap containers ,they make good storage containers ....keep one eye on wyoming ,your life will be dramatically changed by this event ,no matter wher you now live .

educate yourself (and forgive me ) then educate your close freinds ,neighbors ,siblings and parents ...they will consider you something of a pest at first but will become converts over time unless they are too obtuse to absorb unpleasant realitys supported by hard science .a "toba event " is a certainty and unfortunatly it may be sooner rather than later.it is as certain and reliable as the steam geyser that gives "old faithful " its moniker , an "inconvenient truth " that makes the specter of global warming seem rather paltrey in comparisin .it seems that obama has decided to hobble the USGS with the same gag order that GWB ordered in 2003 ,in the intrest of preventing the economic chaos that a mass evacuation would entail from the huge epicenter area ....imo , events as recent as a few weeks ago ,merit your immediate attention ..

i hope you all can tease me next year and every year thereafter as "major chicken little " and we can all laugh at my propensity to worry like a little old lady , sadly ,every decade that passes "TOBA FREE " means exactly dick ,in geologic terms and from this day foward , you will never veiw an image of a grizzley bear ,wolf or bison ,without a certain sense of uneasy foreboding ,sorry bout that amigos .

if the recent seismic activity in the yellowstone caldera proves to be a red herring ( please,please make it so ) ,the mormon doctrine of food storage is a sound practice none-theless .especially given its low cost and ease of implimation .like most of you ,i consider the mayan prophecy of 2012 as silly as the nostradamous nonsense ,the recent rumbleings in wyoming are not such idle bullshit ...unfortunately .

PS. those of you who live in the US , west of wyoming , should consider the purchase of a good respirator mask (about 40 bucks ) and extra filters .like those used in auto body shops .these will be dificult to obtain ,post eruption and i have little faith in the cheapo paper ones secured by a single rubber band ...the wyoming magma is silica and not the less offensive basalt .it appears that the last event killed most land animals within a thousand miles downwind .a layer of dense black dust will cover all roadways west of the ohio valley to a depth of two feet or more within hours of the event .snow plows would be unequal to the density of this ash and automotive air filters would also fail in short order .as i said ,this will erase the USA as a viable nation and agriculture will cease worldwide for several seasons .

survival is possible with good dust masks ,ample food storage and a willingness to shoot intruders .it appears that the the "toba event " reduced the human population by about 90% worldwide .those who take some simple and inexpensive precautions have a fair chance of staying in the ten percent bracket .it would be prudent to pass this "toba " lore down to children and grandchildren .i think it is fair to say that this event puts global warming into proper perspective .

many scientists say that the yellowstone eruption might be ten thousand years away ,unfortunately their opinion is no more informed than the alarmist website at "yellowstone alert " ,imo ,the very recent seismic activitys bear close scrutiny ,no body of knowlege really exists about these monsters because the last one was about 80,000 years ago .it seems obvious that some rather dramatic things are going on as we speak in the caldera ,and no one anywhere will be unaffected by this eruption . this is mt st helens times one thousand .so pay close attention .

I am well aware of how powerful another Yellowstone eruption would be, I don't like to be so quick in worrying about things like this. As Sturm said, is there solid proof of shifting lakebeds and such?

Looked at from a pessimist's view, for every year it doesn't erupt, the more likely it is to do so next year.

Yellstone National Park in USA is home to a massive volcano (a super volcano!!!!) that if errupts can cause HUGE devastation to the world as we know it, ergo we are all f***ed

mankind has no real data on what exactly preceeds a super volcano eruption but that paticular one appears to be past due by several tens of thousands of years ,there are lots of clips at youtube and a hour or two a watching will give one a good feel for the problem .

again ,this kind of thing may not occur for another ten thousand years ,still i think there is a good lesson to be taken from mormon prudence ,volcano or not .a twenty pound bag of rice is cheap enough considering what one would cost in a post collapse world .kinga like checking the nine volt batterys in your smoke alarms ,there is no excuse for negligence if you are a head of household .its not like building a backyard fallout shelter.buy dry food in bulk and store it in a coll dry place in bug proof containers .start doing it today .

If I recall correctly an erruption of the Yellowstone Caldera will bring decades of arctic winter to the whole world, so some warm clothing might be in order.

the last S.V. event was toba in indonesia some eighty thousand years ago , it appears that the following climate upheaval reduced our own speices by 90 percent ,we are the progeny of this ten percent .

water can always be collected and boiled ,in theory it will be "thick on the ground " after a year or so ..global warming will be but a pleasant daydream ....i cant find the tilted lake clip but a steamer that sank out of sight one hundred years ago has risen so that its ribs are now reaching skyward and always dry .does this indicate an iminent eruption ? ..nobody really knows .all the scientists who witnessed the "toba event "had to relie on flintstones type recording devices employing small dinosaurs and moveing parts made of stone .

it is certain that the crust at yellowstone is slowly inflateing ,what is unknown is the "popping point " and weither it might only be a mt st helens event to depressurize the bulge .the last event at yellowstone was a thousand times the volume of atmospheric ash of the st helens event ...this is a sobering factoid .

the bulgeing yellowstone caldera is even more inconvienient than al gore.s worst nightmare , ah ...the good old days ...back when we worried about all the polar bears being gone in only a hundred years ...the fiji islanders plight ? man , that my idea of a good problem ...an inconvenience i could embrace and hold dear , the good old days ...sniff ,sob ..

one positive effect of a tobastone event ,no more whinning about mankinds evil production of CO2 ,in fact ill wager that discussions about pollution and overpopulation will simply cease to be matters of disscusion . greenpeace vessels will be harpooning gray whales and PETA activists will be hunted for their hides and meat .snail darters and panda bears will be on their own ....funny how things can be put into perspective by dear old mother earth herself ,huh ...

It's certainly a threat for sure.
The key issue is timing.
One hundred years is a long time in our eyes, but just a geological blink.
I would take notice of what the scientists are saying, and listen out for escalations in the severity of warnings, especially regarding "imminent" threats of eruption, large or small.
But temper that with the words on the front of the "guide" "" DON'T PANIC "" (note large, friendly font!).

yes ,according to a recent FEMA spokesman "we have nothing to fear ..but fear itself " ...i ,for one ,sleep much more soundly knowing that those guys have everything , well in hand ...

i do have some misgiveings about how efective simple ,home made "tin foil hats " will be, at stopping pyroclastic fallout... but then again ,i am not a govt scientist ...
