The camera must be nice but it's the skill that counts ;)

Mostly a mix of luck, patience and daring (others call it stupidity...). Most of the pics I posted were taken with a small, non-SLR type digital camera, a Kodak 740Z or something like that (I'm sure Notmi could tell you). It'll zoom out pretty far but suffers from bad quality past 120mm, so I usually have to get real close. I was about a meter from the rattlesnake when I got that picture. I was relying on nothing but his good temperament.

The most important thing is just keeping still and visiting the same area frequently so it's not as big of a surprise for the wildlife when they see you there. If you remember those alligator photos I posted about a year ago, I had to visit that spot for weeks before they got used to me. After that, however, they'd let me get as close as ten feet before jumping in the water (which meant it was time for me to jump out!).

Also, know your animals and their behaviors!

Yup, wild animals aren't teddy beers ;)

I like your passion in photography, and I think I'm doing the same thing.

Hard to keep up with some of you. Loved the sunrise and sunset photos (not the crab though, crabs gives me the shivers  ), Sturmtiger, lots of atmosphere. And I can't compete with your nature shots, ram.

A try at something a bit arty, from Hallingskarven.
