Postby ram » Thu Jan 15, 2009 12:38 am

This is a thread about the movie that any member have just watched. Posts and comments about the movie are most welcome for lively and leisurely discussion.

I'll start with the movie that I just watched on DVD, and it's this one:

I've watched this movie long time ago on the silver screen and it's worth watching again :)

I watched "The Day Before Tomorrow". It has some quirky science, but epic weather.

Cake. An instantly forgettable romantic 'comedy'.

Normally I quite like rom coms, but this one was just annoying.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. Quite good film and a standout performance by Casey Affleck. I was surprised because his brother Ben couldn't act his way out of a paper bag.
Oh yeah, and I finally got around to watching Requiem For A Dream. Definitely worth the time spent watching. Not a feel good film, for sure and there are some flaws but impressive cinema nonetheless.

edit. you can watch the whole film (Requiem etc.) on http://www.hulu.com
You can also watch some episodes of classic television on that site.
Who is John Galt?

What's so bad about Ben Affleck's acting anyway?

Perhaps I overstated the case. From what I have seen of his work (not that much actually) I would consider him a mediocre actor, some are far worse.
Doubtless my opinion is colored by the poor quality of the films he has appeared in.

Like what, Pearl Harbor? Now, the reason I watch that film is because of the epic battle sequences, but some people absolutely hate the acting in there, and I honestly can't see what's so bad about it.

Pearl Harbour was IMO a bad film overall,

It was dull, had a pointless love triangle which just side tracked and dominated the story. And the acting was just pretty poor, with no outstanding performances.

Good films too watch:

Outlaw
Blessed by Fire
Equilibrium
Assembly
What's Eating Gilbert Grape (Johnny Depp=Good Actor, and for once DiCaprio actually did a good performance)

I recently saw "Blood Diamond" and DiCaprio did a really good performance in that film too...

Who would have expected the pretty-boy from "Titanic" to be a convincing Rhodesian mercenary? :P Yet he did the part so well that he was nominated for an Oscar

That movie is really nice.

DiCaprio did good also in "Catch Me If You Can", with Christoper Walken.

I watched the Good, the Bad & the Ugly last night. It has my favorite movie line of all time. When Paco (the Mexican) gets caught taking a bath and his pursuer keeps talking Paco shoots him from under the soap bubbles. He says "When you have to shoot, shoot. Don't talk!" :D
