Tank Day in Lesany Military Museum, Czech Republic

Postby Adamicz » Wed Sep 01, 2010 12:45 pm

Every year, when this biggest military related museum in our country ends the season at the end of summer, it helds so called "Tank Day" at it's display arena. This event has become a very popular among the people (there are literally ten thousands of visitors every year) and the museum shows practically every year some new stuff. I did a few hundreds of pictures in last few years, so I thought I might show you some of them. Hope you'll enjoy it :)

There's more of the tanks in the museum's collection that I didn't capture yet (like LT-35/PzKpfw.35(t), PT-76, M4A1 Sherman, M4A3E4 Sherman, T-72M3CZ prototype, T-34/76E, M47 Patton, IS-2, Cromwell IV, PzKpfw.IV Ausf.J, Comet, ŠKODA MU-4/IV, T-55AM1 Kladivo + some support conversions: recovery tanks, bridge layers), so really a lot of stuff to see. The museum should also get a Praga LTP in the near future from Peru.

And of course, beside the tanks, you can find here a lot of armored vehicles, APC's, howitzers, air defence systems, etc., mainly related to Czechoslovakian/Czech army past. But that's different story :)

You did not hope in vain! Wonderful pictures, and thank you so much for sharing. :)

Do you mind if we use some of your photos for our Preserved Military Vehicle Register Project?

Great photos of some very interesting subjects. Thanks for sharing.
Speaking of 'subjects'... I rubbed my eyes, but that surely looks to be a "chiquita' commanding that IS-3.

Tankers do it in the dirt.

Thank you for the photographs!

I was visiting Prague earlier this year, but I unfortunately didn't manage to get to the museum. I did spend four hours trapped in the Czech railroad system looking for it, though. Apparently, Lesany isn't that well-known a town to those living in Prague :|

Prague is a beautiful city, however, so I'll certainly be back some day, at which time I can check out the museum as well :)

Are the two Strv m/37 pictures of the same vehicle, or do they have two?

I guess that the T-34/85s are seperate, as there are minor differences like missing trackguards etc.

If the pics were taken in different years then the tank could have been repainted...

Smartarse... ;)

It could, but it's not the same tank :) The first picture with that grey colour scheme, that Praga belongs to Swedish Tank museum in Strangnas. They brought this tank to Czech Republic together with other two wrecks of Strv m/37 which Lesany museum bought back in 2006 to restore to running condition. It was for documentation purpose and of course it was a great oportunity to show it at the Tank Day as well.

The Strangnas museum also has it's own webpage about the restoration in Lesany Museum:
