The 1/72 Scale AFV Members Gallery (Pics Only)

Postby PanzerProfile » Thu Nov 13, 2008 5:07 pm

Dear fellow modellers,

Only a very short time ago, a brilliant idea has been put forward by Skua. He suggested that our Modellers' Forum should have a gallery showing all the work that we have done in a certain category or scale. This means that all models YOU have made in this perticular scale can be presented here!

This will provide us with a very nice overview of all models that have been made in the past, it may serve as inspiration for the future, and I think it's also very nice to have a look at every once in a while.

Therefore, I invite you to post your pictures on the 1/72 scale in this thread!

let's make this a nice gallery for ourselves!

Good luck,
PP

PS. If you cannot post the pictures here yourself for some reason, you can also have me post them for you. You can send me a PM with a request for my email address, and I will then post your pictures here without selection. Mind you: the pictures should not be too large in file size and preferable not larger than 600x400 pixels. If pics are larger, they will not be displayed correctly in the forum thread so I'll have to edit them, which is a lot of work for all your photos!

Possibly the model I am proudest of, a 1/72 Cromwell (Revell kit) made for the Group build:

And the Bereznyak-Isaev BI (cheap Russian kit with brittle plastic and no instructions!)

KV-1E made for the Group Build:

Hellcat (Airfix kit) - the nose art is hand-painted

LaGG-3 diorama I made for a friend's birthday:

Merkava:

StuG III (Revell kit) for the Group Build - side skirts are scratch-built

Image

T-34 (Italeri kit) as used by German Army

Image

T-34 (Italeri kit) converted to AA tank - turret scratch built from credit cards

Image

Bristol Belnhiem (Airfix kit) - representing the plane my friend's grandad was the gunner in

One of the things I wanted to tie up...

I made this diorama for my Grandad - it is based on a photograph he bought that reminded him of his days in the RAF.

Image

The Spitfire is the Airfix 1/72 kit, slightly modified with an open canopy, detailed door, and hand-painted RN N codes. The parachute on the wing is cut from a pilot figure from Airfix's RAF Ground Crew set, with straps & buckles made from bits of masking tape and thin plastic. The Starter trolley is also from Airfix's RAF Ground Crew set, with the cable made from a paperclip. The connecting plug between cable & plane is actually the nose cone of a British WW2 air-to-ground rocket.

The grass is made from finely ground up soil, heavily dry-brushed green then lightly drybrushed yellow (though the light in the photo does not show it at its best)

My offering for the latest GB, a Syrian PZIV

It is the Italeri PzIV kit. Not a bad kit, as long as you have some decent files and a lot of patience.
For this model, I had to do a lot of modifications.

The exhausts are scratch-built from sprue and credit cards.
The applique armour on the hull front (around the drivers visor) is again a bit of a credit card.
The thick bands holding the spare track links to the hull front and the wierd angle-thing on the track guard are sprue from etched metal parts.
The handles on the driver/co-driver hatches are fusewire
The stowage bin on the left hand side is credit cards with a thinner plastic lid.
The wheel-stowage bin was shortened, and had a fusewire divider added.
The spare wheels are home-made resin casts.
The triangular aerial mount on the side of the engine deck is a bit of sprue.
The sproket teeth were far too fat, and had to be filed down to half their thickness so I could fit the tracks on them.
The side hatches on the turret are filed down to about a quarter of their original thickness.
The angular thingy on the turret front (next the gun) is an altered piece from my spares box.
The commander's hatch thingy is a combination of a disc of plastic from my 'odd bits' box, a paper disc (the hatch itself) and a couple of bits of thin plastic (the hinges). The mg mount is a resin casting, held up by thin bits of plastic and a strut from my spares bin. This is one part I am less happy with, as the curved bit is too thick and blocky, and this whole area kinda makes the model look more like a toy.

This was supposed to be my entry for the 'Heavy Tanks' Group Build, but as you can see it is rather late!

It is the Italeri 1/72 kit (I did a kit review in the review forum)
