Ok, which current national flag features the most crosses?

Yes, it has 5.

I was half excepcting somebody to say 'Australia' - It has the crosses of St Geaorge, St Andrew and St Patrick, plus the Southern Cross, making 4!

Nice touch with the Southern Cross there :D

Here's a fun one: Many flags have writing on them, usually the state motto. These writings are usually in Latin. Name the fully-independant country whose flag bears an English text.

I'm actually not quite sure which continent the country is on (which should be a hint by itself), but one thing that might help is that the country is an island.

The only ones I can find are the Falklands, Tristan da Cunha and the Cayman Islands, but they are British Overseas Territorys.

True, those do have an English text, but doesn't count, as they are not fully independant countries.

Another hint: The text is directly related to World War II.

New hint (you should get it now ;)): The country's coast borders the mediteranian, and although it was directly involved in the war, it saw no land-based action.

O.k., let me re-phrase the question: Which mediteranian island, which participated directly in World War II yet didn't see any land-based action, is the only fully-independant country whose flag bears an English text?

Come on, you should be able to get this one, even if you have only a rudimentary knowledge of World War II.

Oh cunning...

Malta's flag incudes a George Cross (awarded to the island in WW2) which has the words 'For Gallantry' on it.

Exactly :)

This would make an excellent pub quiz question, by the way.

Ok, an easy one.
A fully-independant country with a non-European language on its flag.

Saudia Arabia is probably the most prominent, though I was tempted to answer South Korea (depending on your defintion of language).
